Moolicious Blue

Raw Jersey Cow Milk • Natural Rind • Aged 3-4 months
wheels of Moolicious Blue from Bleating Heart Cheese

Our "Moolicious Blue" is an adaptation of our award-winning recipe for "Ewelicious Blue" sheep cheese, but using a different type of milk results is a very different cheese, albeit a delicious one, even when the same procedure is followed. That's just one of the countless fascinating aspects of cheesemaking that makes us eager to keep making more cheese. We didn't have to think too much about the name for this cheese.....our sheep blue is Ewelicious, and so naturally this one is Moolicious!

The History of Bleating Heart Cheese

Founded in June 2009 by Seana Doughty, Bleating Heart Cheese began with a mission to produce unique, handcrafted, premium quality “American Original” sheep milk cheese. The inspiration came shortly after Seana quit her desk job and went to work at a neighborhood cheese shop, Venissimo, in Del Mar, CA. Thoroughly smitten by cheeses, especially sheep cheese, Seana started down the road to becoming a cheesemaker and never looked back.

Operation Sheep-O-Rama 2009

Map of Operation Sheep-O-Rama - Sebastopol, CA to River Falls, WI

Here is the story of my journey from the Bay Area of California all the way to River Falls, WI to pick up my sheep. Along for the ride was my sister Jennifer, who was equally lacking in experience with driving a big ass 4x4 truck or driving in snowy/icy road conditions, let alone with livestock on board. So here's the lowdown on the 1 truck, 2 girls, 5 days, 10 sheep, and 4,200 miles that were......Operation Sheep-O-Rama. This is the initial map I put together for the trip, with tentative stopping points along the way.
